It was another perfect day at Rhinebeck this year, with great friends. Suzanne, Amy, Paula, Paula’s wee one and I set off before the crack of dawn again this year (5 to be exact) and did the traditional breakfast at Pete’s Famous in Rhinebeck with Emilee and Jacie. Then we hit the festival, for a day of relaxed shopping and poking.
My haul, above, is by far my smallest ever – not necessarily intentionally (though gone are the days of going crazy there – I have so much stash!). I picked up a skein of Bijou Bliss in natural , as planned, to go with the skein of bright pink purchased earlier in the year, so that I can make my Tremblant mittens. I got a few “decorations” for the non-mom mobile, a replacement of the pad used for my to do list at work, a drive band for my wheel (before it breaks – there’s an idea!) and a couple of Christmas ornaments. While plenty of other things caught my eye, there was nothing that I felt was really a must have. I left perfectly happy, with perhaps a bit more in the budget for Harrisville if I want. Mostly though, I had fun with the girls. I love that my friends so happily hop in the car with me at an ungodly hour and set off for an all day adventure and that more got up early to have breakfast with us. We did the festival until nearly 4, then stopped for dinner on the way home. Its rare to get a full day with the girls – I enjoyed every minute of it. We’re already making a plan to do the same next year, with perhaps a couple more in tow.
And now, the big event of my fiber-y vacation begins – time to pack and head up to Harrisville this afternoon. Weaving class starts tomorrow morning! I can’t wait to get to my happy place!
